
JAMES LEE
A musical theatre and cabaret performer, voice-over artist, director and designer, James Lee has performed professionally for more than 35 years.James professional theatre credits Les Miserables, Wizard of the Oz, Mac/Doc/Thug in 42nd Street, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Eureka The Musical, Bye Bye Birdie & High Society, Annie and as Captain Terri Dennis in Privates on Parade. James spent three years understudying Topol in Fiddler on the Roof & performed in the Australian premiere concert version of Jerry Springer the Opera. James was nominated for a Sydney Theatre Award in 2010 for ‘Best Actor in a Musical’ for his performance of Molina in Kiss of the Spiderwoman. In 2014/15 he created the role of Captain Woodenhead in Andy Griffith’s The 26 Storey Treehouse (CDP), which toured to 55 cities around Australia. James played Harry in the acclaimed Opera Australia/GFO 60th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady directed by Dame Julie Andrews.He is on the National Judging panel for Wakakirri, a regular performer with corporate acts The Three Waiters, Hypnotwist, Tenors Undercover & The Leading Men. In cabaret, two successful seasons of Being James Lee at Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne and appearances at Trevor Ashleigh’s ShowQueen Sunday Sydney. He was a segment director alongside choreographer Ian Knowles for the Sydney 2002 Gay Games Opening Ceremony.In 1999 James created ‘Hats Off’ with Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and directed & co-produced the first two and final concerts with fellow performer Margi De Ferranti and were joined with Trevor Ashley for the final concert in 2019. He performed in ‘Boys of Sondheim’ at the Sydney Recital Hall for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2019. Post COVID lockdown James starred in ‘Vice and Violins’ with Lizzie Moore, Luke Volker and the Cammerata String Quintet at the Brisbane Powerhouse October 2020 and embodied the role of Roger De Bris in the critically acclaimed production of The Producers at BrisbanePowerhouse. Most recently James was Meyer Wolfsheim in Viral Ventures ‘The Great Gatsby’ and was honoured to be the opening night act for the WorldPride season in his new one man show ‘Keeping it Gay’ at Claire’s Kitchen.
